Introduction

The origins of the Hare Krishna movement can be traced through its 5,000-year-old historical chain of gurus, called a "disciplic succession." In Sanskrit, this succession is called the "guru parampara." From 5,000 years ago, until 1977, all of the gurus in the bona fide succession have always been spotless in character. In November of 1977, the "link in the guru chain," and founder of the Hare Krishna movement, His Divine Grace Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, passed away. Immediately after this event, Srila Prabhupada's leading secretaries (Governing Body Commission or GBC) formed what they have alleged to be "the continuation of the guru succession."

However, unlike all the of the previously pure gurus in the traditional succession, we have instead witnessed a constant stream of impure, deviant, even criminal activities manifesting amongst members of the post-1977 "guru lineage." The list of evil activities performed by members of the GBC's alleged "guru succession" is practically endless. We will name only a few prominent "guru" problems:

1) homosexuality
2) pedophilia
3) wife stealing
4) homosexual nightclub visits
5) advocating condom use for gurus
6) females giving "massages"
7) intoxication with LSD, marijuana, liquor, cigarettes
8) contrived ghost exorcism of gurus, devotees and temples
9) encouraging stealing, smuggling, drug dealing
10) trademark violations
11) racketeering
12) mail fraud
13) general illicit sexual affairs with men, women and children followers
14) orchestrated banning, beatings and murders of dissidents
15) orchestrating death threats
16) embezzlement, misuse of funds
17) alleged Mafia connections
18) living like kings while some of the children in their schools were being starved, beaten and molested
19) using ISKCON funds for personal use
20) allowing "Krishna's cows" to be sent to slaughter
21) hiding, losing and/or modification of Srila Prabhupadas works
22) perhaps poisoning of Srila Prabhupada, as many now suspect, and as evidence suggests, and so on and so forth.

These problems have naturally generated considerable publicity, but were the persons involved in these activities ever gurus at all? And how did these "gurus" become designated as such in the first place? And why haven't the rank-and-file members of the Krishna religion done much of anything to correct these incredible and obvious deviations? Why are the founding fathers of almost all of these deviations still worshiped as if they are "as good as God" even today?

We do not wish to falsely criticize any member of the Krishna Consciousness movement. The authors of this paper have not lost sight of the tremendous service rendered by all devotees past and present, including some of the individuals referred to in this paper.

This essay is, by no means, a comprehensive account of all events that have taken place. Neither does it attempt to fully address all of the aspects of the profoundly deviated philosophical seeds which have sprouted such evil fruits. The primary purpose of this paper is to reestablish the purity and integrity of the original and pure guru succession, represented by its foremost proponent, His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. We also wish to submit some practical solutions to the numerous problems mentioned.

Dedication

To everyone's spiritual master, His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, a pure devotee of Krishna and a bona fide guru.

A few acknowledgments

Sulochana dasa.
First, we have to give the highest credit to Sulochana dasa, whose assassination was orchestrated by some of the GBC's "gurus" in 1986. He provided the authors of this document with his first ever view of Srila Prabhupada's letters. These letters had been purposefully hidden by GBC "gurus." Sulochana acted as the "front line" soldier for the "dissenters," exposing the GBC's ever-expanding child molestation nests and so on and so forth, and thus he probably accepted bullets which would have otherwise been aimed at the author of this book. When both of us talked for the last time in May of 1986, he said, "I will probably never see you again, Puranjana."

Joeseph Sanchez.
A police officer with the Berkeley, CA, police department. What can be said? The author of this document would almost certainly no longer be among the living without his assistance. His analysis could neatly summarize this entire book: "There was Srila Prabhupada, and then there were those who thought they were Srila Prabhupada!"

The FBI.
The FBI worked very fast in solving Sulochana dasa's murder, and they simultaneously uncovered details that the author of this document was "next in line." They are to be highly commended for arresting the GBC's "hit man" and halting a guru orchestrated murder plot against the author, and probably others.

Chapter Two

The Gathering Storm (Up to 1978) Despite the phenomenal growth of the Krishna movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s, under the leadership of Srila Prabhupada, He privately warned of numerous potential dangers. In particular he warned of excesses, especially by those in the position of leadership.

Srila Prabhupada strongly desired a stable managing body to perpetuate his society. Similarly, in the 1930s, Srila Prabhupada's guru, namely Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura, had also tried to form a managerial "governing body" for his society, namely the Gaudiya Matha. Unfortunately, in both the 1930s and in the 1970s, these governing body members deviated by overstepping their authority. They artificially began to assume that they were not only their guru's "governing managers," but that they were also their guru's replacements or successors.

What is surprising is that the following instructions, indeed all of Srila Prabhupada's letters and conversations, were purposefully hidden by the GBC from the rank-and-file devotees. No discussion of their potential contents was allowed. Simultaneously, various GBC's began to plead, "Srila Prabhupada gave us insufficient instructions," although these letters and conversations were full of instructions. Then the GBC forwarded their "new Gaudiya Matha authority" in 1978 and began to introduce his deviant ideas. Naturally, these letters and conversations would have exposed that this "Gaudiya Matha connection" was unauthorized by Srila Prabhupada, so the GBC arranged to have the letters hidden and suppressed. Indeed, in 1985 the author of this document and our associate were threatened with death for distributing the letters. Soon after that, our associate was assassinated (May 22, 1986) and we were told by the police that we were "next on the list."

In March of 1990, the GBC even printed a document glorifying Tirtha, Madhava, and Sridhara Maharajas as "parampara acharyas," equal to Srila Prabhupada. As we will see herein, Srila Prabhupada's letters hardly support this notion. Small wonder the GBC suppressed these letters. In 1987, a small printing (500 copies) of the letters was made, without authority or support from the GBC. Meanwhile, they have produced many of their own books, magazines and tape ministries with ideas that are contrary to the letters and conversations that they suppressed. As we shall see, Srila Prabhupada issued plenty of warnings about these types of activities.

Note: The numbers "66" etc denote the year, i.e 66, 1966, and the subsequent numbers denote the item number.

66.01 FAILED
Srila Prabhupada: "The Gaudiya Matha institution has failed." (Srila Prabhupada Letter [SPL] March 11, 1966)

Note: The post 1930s Gaudiya Matha artificially made "gurus," exactly as the post-1977 GBC has done. This resulted in the dismantling of that institution into small, competing guru factions.

67.01 ACHARYA IN THE CENTER
Srila Prabhupada summarizes his original intent and purpose for his society: "I wish that every temple shall retain their independent identity and keeping the acharya [himself] in the center." (SPL February 11, 1967)

Note: This instruction is Srila Prabhupada's simple master plan for His movement. It is still applicable today, more than ever.

67.02 ENVY
Srila Prabhupada: "Kirtanananda was awarded the position of sannyasa because he wanted it, although I could understand that he wanted to be a spiritual master himself."(SPL October 27, 1967)

Note: Kirtananda was later declared by the post-1977 GBC to be their best "new guru," despite the fact that it was known that Kirtanananda had a tendency to defy Srila Prabhupada, to be inclined to homosexuality, and that indeed he sometimes thought he was equal to, or perhaps better than, Srila Prabhupada. We can see why the GBC wanted the letters hidden. They could then prop up people like Kirtanananda as "pure devotees," and hide the fact that these folks were not actually trusted by Srila Prabhupada.

67.03 SRILA PRABHUPADA'S EQUAL?
Srila Prabhupada: "Kirtanananda is a crazy man, that is proven. He says that he has become equal to the spiritual master but he is such a fool that he does not understand the principle of disciple even in ordinary worldly affairs." (SPL September 11, 1967)

67.04 LIP SERVICE
Srila Prabhupada: "By lips he says he is a surrendered soul but by action he is thinking differently." (SPL October 6, 1967)

67.05 NO CONFIDENCE
Srila Prabhupada: "I may disclose herewith that I never took Kirtanananda into complete confidence." (SPL October 9, 1967)

67.06 DEVICES
Srila Prabhupada: "People are attracted to the chanting of Hare Krishna and not Kirtanananda's devices." (SPL October 13, 1967)

67.07 MAYA
Srila Prabhupada: "Simply by his sannyasa dress he thought himself as cured of all material diseases and mistakes, but under the influence of Maya, he thought himself a liberated patient, just as a foolish patient thinks himself cured of the disease." (SPL October 17, 1967)

Note: In 1994, some residents of Kirtanananda's "zone" have only just now been able to see the above quotes. The GBC's plan, to hide, suppress and deny Srila Prabhupada's actual quotes has effectively kept people "in the dark" about their alleged post-1977 "gurus."

There were other instances where GBC's artificially concluded that they were already "gurus". For example, in January of 1975, Srila Prabhupada complained in a meeting of his senior GBC's that some of His leading men were already trying to become guru, even while He was still present. He warned them sternly that this should never be done.

Later, in a May 27, 1977 conversation between Tamala Krishna, Bhavananda and Srila Prabhupada, it became very evident that some GBC's were still thinking of "who would be guru" after Srila Prabhupada's departure:

Srila Prabhupada: Not only property. Our prestige, our position ...Everything is envied. Everywhere we are first class.

Tamala Krishna: Yes, there is no rival

Bhavananda: There will be [GBC] men, I know. There will be men who will try to pose themselves as guru.

Tamala Krishna: That was going on many years ago. Your godbrothers were thinking like that. Madhava Maharaja...

Bhavananda: Oh, yes. Ready to jump.

Srila Prabhupada: Very strong management required and vigilant observation...

Note: This is another conversation that was suppressed and not released to the devotees. It was only released in a limited printing in 1990.

68.01 REINITIATION DENOUNCED
Srila Prabhupada: "I am greatly surprised for Bon Maharaja's initiating you in spite of his knowing that you are already initiated by me. So it is a deliberate transgression of Vaishnava etiquette and otherwise a direct insult to me. I do not know why he has done like this, but no Vaishnava will approve of this offensive action..." (SPL March 3, 1968)

Note: Sridhara Maharaja also began to "reinitiate" a number of Srila Prabhupada's disciples after His departure. He even provided new spiritual names. Similarly, after 1977, the GBC began drafting reams of "position papers" on the topic of "reinitiation" for ISKCON members, but it is clearly evident herein that the whole concept was never approved of by Srila Prabhupada. To sum, if someone is bogus, he could never have given spiritual initiation to another in the fist place.

69.01 SRIDHARA MAHARAJA ENDORSED?
The only written instruction where anyone was advised to seek shelter of Sridhara Maharaja (of the Gaudiya Matha) was written in January, 1969. Achyutananda dasa was, at that time, associating with Bon Maharaja, a Gaudiya Matha deviant "guru" who had homosexual tendencies and many other problems.

Achyutananda dasa was ACTUALLY advised to go to Germany and serve Srila Prabhupada there. As a clearly less desirable second option, if he would refuse to do that, he should at least leave Bon Maharaja and stay with Sridhara Maharaja. Later, this letter was taken out of context as a "full endorsement" of Sridhara Maharaja as an authority by the GBC and others.

69.02 A RECOLLECTION
Himavati dasi and a group of Srila Prabhupada's devotees went to visit Sridhara Maharaja's temple in Navadvipa. They noticed that some of his devotees were chuckling and making fun of them, and worse, of Srila Prabhupada's efforts to purify "Westerners or mlecchas." This very much upset Srila Prabhupada's devotees. Himavati dasi then gave a tearful admonishment to Sridhara Maharaja's temple members. When the devotees returned to Srila Prabhupada, they related the incident to him. He stated, "I don't want any of you to go to any of the Gaudiya Matha's temples ever again."

69.03 ADULTERATION
Srila Prabhupada: "If you adulterate the samkirtana movement with some business motive, then it will be SPOILED immediately. Be careful in this way..." (SPL January 1, 1969)

Note: Srila Prabhupada was warning about the GBC's possible deviaton of selling items like jewelry, paintings, audio rock and roll records, bumper stickers, candles, and so on, and calling this "samkirtana" (congregational chanting of God's holy name) as has occured.

69.04 PURITY
Srila Prabhupada: "We are not concerned with any other movement save and except Krishna consciousness in its pure form. In India it is said that a little bit of a pure thing is much better than huge volumes of impure, adulterated things. So please try to follow this policy." (SPL August 27, 1969)

69.05 GURU APPOINTMENT?
Srila Prabhupada: "I have also read specifically your articles on the matter of  acaryas, wherein on the 14th paragraph I see that the acarya shall be entitled to nominate in writing his successive acarya. But we do not find any record [in the 1930s Gaudiya Matha] where our Srila Prabhupada nominated any acharya after him. Different persons have interpreted this point and every one of our Godbrothers is acting as acharya." (SPL August 21, 1969)

Note: Similarly, the post-1977 ISKCON GBC has never produced any record of when they were "appointed as diksha gurus," successors, or acharyas, in the first place? Moreover, Srila Prabhupada condemned this "guru appointment" idea for a solid forty years. Worse, the post-1977 GBC went directly to a primary architect of the above-mentioned 1930s deviation for "philosophical advice."

69.06 USURPERS?
Srila Prabhupada: "Regarding the section 92 case against the Gaudiya Matha, I don't think there is any possibility of compromise. Both the Bagh Bazaar party [Sridhara Maharaja's group] and the Mayapura party [Tirtha Maharaja's group] have UNLAWFULLY usurped the missionary institution of Srila Prabhupada." (SPL September 5, 1969)

70.01 SNAKE
Srila Prabhupada: "I do not wish to go into all the details herein, but this [Gaudiya Matha alleged "successor guru"] Bon Maharaja may be considered as a black SNAKE and at the time of His disappearance, My Guru Maharaja, did not even wish to have him in His presence due the character of this Bon Maharaja..." (SPL January 31, 1969)

70.02 SINISTER MOVEMENT
In the middle of 1970, a few of Srila Prabhupada's senior "leaders" made an attempt to minimize his authority in His society. Srila Prabhupada: "It is a fact that the great SINISTER movement is WITHIN our society." (SPL September 2, 1970)

Note: Srila Prabhupada later credited some of his "fourth class ["guru"] Godbrothers from the Gaudiya Matha" for creating this "poisonous influence."

70.03 KEEP STANDARDS
Srila Prabhupada: "I have formed the GBC for that purpose, to keep the devotional standards at the highest level." (SPL November 4, 1970)

71.01 BOOKS FORBIDDEN
Srila Prabhupada personally told us, in India, not to purchase any books from the Gaudiya Matha. Practically, He was almost crying. He said, "You do not know the proper etiquette to your Guru Maharaja, but you should not seek out any other authorities. This is an offense." He added, "This is spiritual prostitution."

71.02 COMPLAINTS
Srila Prabhupada:  "I set up the GBC with the hope that I shall get relief from administration of the mission, but on the contrary I have become the center for receiving so many complaints." (SPL August 14, 1971)

71.03 BE CAREFUL
Srila Prabhupada: "Now it is the time for our GBC members to be very careful so that people may not point out any black spots in the behavior of our society. I have issued a letter to all GBC members only for this purpose." (SPL September 1, 1971)

71.04 FINAL AUTHORITY TREND? ROLE OF GBC DEFINED
Srila Prabhupada: "GBC members are to see that things are going on. Our centers have their presidents, secretaries, etc., and they are managing separately. That is the formula. So, how is it that the GBC is the final authority? They are simply to examine that things are going on nicely, that is all." (SPL July 9, 1971)

71.05 FORMULA FOR ISKCON:
"GBC does not mean to control a center. GBC means to see that activities of a center go on nicely. I do not know why Tamala Krishna is exercising his ABSOLUTE authority. That is NOT the business of the GBC. The president, treasurer and secretary are responsible for managing the center. GBC is to see that things are going nicely but NOT to exert absolute authority. That is NOT in the power of the GBC. Tamala Krishna should not do like that." (SPL August 12, 1971)

72.01 A FARCE?
Srila Prabhupada: "One thing, if we are not careful to always stick to the point of regulative principles and purest standards of high living, then everything will SPOIL very quickly and the whole show will be a FARCE." (SPL February 2, 1972)

72.02 DICTATING?
Srila Prabhupada: "GBC men should not DICTATE very much, simply supervise and see that the standards are maintained.  The individual presidents should be more managerial, more individuals...  But if we lose individuality and simply become mechanical, what is the point?" (SPL February 14, 1972)

72.03 CENTRALIZATION
Srila Prabhupada: "From now on, the temples will operate independently and try to improve their spiritual life more carefully, so there is no need for such financial arrangement of CENTRALIZATION as you have proposed."(SPL April 10, 1972)

Note: Some GBCs were planning to make a centralized legal and financial "umbrella corporation" in 1972. This idea very much upset Srila Prabhupada. All along he had wanted to keep the individual temple centers independent. Of course, soon after Srila Prabhupada's departure in 1977, the GBC immediately started their centralization plan again, with their autocratic zonal acarya system and later another form of "umbrella corporation," called "The ISKCON Foundation."

72.04 WILL THE GBC SPOIL EVERYTHING?
Srila Prabhupada: "I am surprised that NONE of the GBC members detected the defects in the procedure. It was detected only when it came to me. What will happen after I depart, will the GBC SPOIL everything? So, for the time being, let the GBC activities be suspended until I thoroughly revise the whole procedure." (SPL April 11, 1972)

72.05 "CONTROLLING" TREND
In May 1972 Srila Prabhupada encouraged some GBCS to "get away from management and increase preaching." Satsvarupa Goswami writes on this event, "We heard through letters from Prabhupada's secretary that Prabhupada was not very satisfied with the leaders on his ISKCON Governing Body Commission. According to Prabhupada's secretary, the GBC men were stressing management too much and becoming attached to CONTROLLING men and money. They were NOT preaching enough." (LWS p.67)

72.06 LEGAL FORMULAS
Srila Prabhupada: "Not that they [problems] can be solved by making some legal formula and having big, big meetings and talks. The politicians have been holding such meetings and talks for some time now and the world is no better place for it, and they have only made things worse. We should not follow their example." (SPL May 2,1972)

72.07 DISTURBANCES?
Srila Prabhupada: "This is most irregular. I am trying to retire from the administration, but if the presidents and the Gbc men make such disturbance then how can I be peaceful?" (SPL May 9, 1972)

72.08 IMPORTANCE OF MAINTAINING EXISTING DEVOTEES
Srila Prabhupada: "You mention you like to speak very often now, but the first business should be to preach to the [existing] devotees. It is better to MAINTAIN a devotee than to try to convince others to become devotees. Don't be too much concerned, for the time being, with non-devotees, now we MUST fix up what devotees we have in the knowledge of Krishna consciousness, then we will succeed. What good are so many devotees if none of them are knowledgeable?" (SPL June 16, 1972)

Note: Srila Prabhupada was always alarmed at the problem of people joining and then leaving Krishna consciousness, including many so-called big leaders, sannyasis and GBCs. He wanted to strengthen and train the existing men. However, after 1977, the GBC purposefully drove out 95 percent of "the existing men" so that they could have pliable and gullible "new men," to brainwash into their "we were appointed as Srila Prabhupada's successors" dogma. The result has been immature, schismatic and chaotic management. Many important projects have thus become stunted, rocked by scandals, bankrupted, halted, and in some cases even closed down permanently.

72.09 DISCOURAGED
Srila Prabhupada: "All along I have been discouraged IN EVERY WAY by my [Gaudiya Matha "guru"] Godbrothers, but still I have stuck to my duty, keeping my spiritual master in front." (SPL August 4, 1972)

72.10 DEPRESSION, REPRESSION AND COMPRESSION
Srila Prabhupada: "All along my [Gaudiya Matha "guru"] Godbrothers have gave me ONLY depression, repression, compression, but I continued strong in my duty." (SPL August 4, 1972)

72.11 SEEDS OF ZONAL ILLUSIONS AND GBC WARS?
Srila Prabhupada: "So we [GBC] shall not think that this is my zone, that is his zone, just like the Indian and Pakistan nations are thinking, and then there is war . . . never mind his zone or my zone, that is material designation." (SPL November 18, 1972)

72.12 RASCALS IN THE NAME OF VAISHNAVAS!
Srila Prabhupada: "If you are serious to be an important assistant in our society... do NOT mix yourself with my
SO-CALLED [Gaudiya Matha] Godbrothers. As there are some residents, like monkeys and hogs, in Vrindavana, similarly there are many RASCALS in the name of Vaishnavas, be careful of them. And do not DARE to question impudently before your spiritual master." (SPL November 21, 1972)

72.13 MASTER PLAN FROM THE VERY BEGINNING - DANGER OF CENTRALIZATION.

IMPORTANCE OF INDEPENDENT AND SELF-SUFFICIENT TEMPLES
Srila Prabhupada: "I have heard from Jayatirtha, that you want to make big plan for centralization of management, taxes, monies, corporate status, bookkeeping, credit, like that. I do not at all approve of such plan. Do not
CENTRALIZE anything. Each temple must remain independent and self-sufficient. That was my plan from the very beginning, why are you thinking otherwise?   Once before you wanted to do something by centralizing with your GBC meetings, and if I did not interfere THE WHOLE THING would have been KILLED." (SPL December 22, 1972)

72.14 DANGER OF BUREAUCRACY
Srila Prabhupada: "Once there is bureaucracy the whole thing will be SPOILED. There must always be individual striving, work and responsibility, competitive spirit, not that one shall dominate and distribute benefits to others and they do nothing but beg from you and you provide. No."(SPL December 22, 1972)

72.15 GBC NOT FOLLOWING!
Srila Prabhupada: "I am a little observing now, especially in your country, that our men are losing their enthusiasm for spreading the programs of Krishna consciousness. Otherwise why so many letters are coming, with problems, dissatisfied? This is not a good sign. So I do not think the leaders are themselves following, nor are they seeing that the others are following strictly. This must be rectified at once." (SPL December 22, 1972)

72.16 LIES.
Srila Prabhupada: "So it is not very much advisable to make lies just to sell our books …
LIES, will not help us to train ourselves in truthfulness. Lie to some, not to others, that is not a very good philosophy. Rather the Brahmanas [Krishna followers] are always truthful, even to their enemies." (SPL December 25, 1972)

72.17 LITTLE IMPURITY: HELL?
Srila Prabhupada: "As soon as there is a little impurity, the whole thing will deteriorate and go to HELL. We shall not like to take the credit in that case, therefore I am praying simply that all of you, my  advanced disciples, GBC men, Temple officers, will become sober-minded." (SPL December 29,1972)

72.18 THREATEN SRILA PRABHUPADA?
Madhava Maharaja, and a group of his Gaudiya Matha associates, visited Srila Prabhupada in February of 1972, in Mayapura and very angrily chastised him. Madhava Maharaja pointed his finger in Srila Prabhupada's face and screamed insults at him, berating Srila Prabhupada for allowing himself to be called "Srila Prabhupada," and for not "cooperating" with his deviant Gaudiya Matha "guru" Godbrothers. Srila Prabhupada noted sardonically to some of His senior disciples that his so-called "guru" Godbrothers might try to have him assassinated. It is worthy to note that in 1990, the GBC openly exalted this very same blasphemer, Madhava Maharaja, as equal to Srila Prabhupada, in their 1990 ISKCON Journal.

Srila Prabhupada had warned one of His senior disciples [a contributor to the ISKCON Journal of March 1990] in this connection. "What do we care for Madhava Maharaja or Damodara Maharaja. They are figs. We must be fixed. Just see; Madhava Maharaja is against us and he was supposed to be the greatest preacher." (SPL June 6, 1972)

73.01 DEITY WORSHIP
Srila Prabhupada: "The greatest danger to our movement will come when we manufacture and create our own process for worshiping the deities" (SPL January 3, 1973)

Note: As subsequently seen after Srila Prabhupada's disappearance, the GBC concocted numerous unauthorized methods of worshiping the bona fide acharya, i.e., Srila Prabhupada, and thus the deities.

73.02 FUTURE DOUBTFUL
Srila Prabhupada: "I have created the GBC specifically for this purpose [proper management]. If you elder disciples cannot manage things, then what is the FUTURE of the society?" (SPL April 19, 1973)

73.03 CHEATING WARNING
Srila Prabhupada: "Our Kunja Babu [Tirtha Maharaja] also thought like that. He thought, 'By cheating all of the [Gaudiya Matha] Godbrothers, I have now got Caitanya Matha. And people will come to see Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's birthplace, and I will get good income.' That's all. That's his scheme."(SPL September 21, 1973)

73.03 GAUDIYA MATHA BOOKS
Srila Prabhupada: "Regarding GAUDIYA MATHA books being circulated there, who is distributing? Who is sending these books? The Gaudiya Matha does not sell OUR books, why should we sell their books? Who has introduced these books? Let me know. These books should NOT AT ALL be circulated in OUR society.  …Bhakti Vilas Tirtha is very much ANTAGONISTIC to our society and he has no clear conception of devotional service. He is contaminated.  Anyway, who has introduced these books? You say that you would read only one book if that is all I had written, so you TEACH OTHERS to do like that." (SPL December 17, 1973)

73.04 NO OUTSIDE AUTHORITIES
Srila Prabhupada: "Whatever is to be learned about the teachings of Bhaktivinoda Thakura can be learned from OUR books. There is NO NEED WHATSOEVER for ANY outside instruction." (SPL December 4, 1973)

74.01 GBC POLITICS AND INTRIGUE
Srila Prabhupada: "My request, therefore, is that you should become ideal men. If we fight… Now there is fighting amongst yourselves. That is a very great disappointment to me. The same politics, intrigues. Nature is so strong that the brain becomes, what is it called? Fag brain? The brain becomes deranged… Now POLITICS is coming in. As soon as we are getting money, POLITICS is coming in. That is a great concern." (Room Conversation [RC] with Srila Prabhupada April 31, 1974)

74.02 OPPRESSING GODBROTHERS
Srila Prabhupada: "Now this displeasing of God brothers has already begun and it is giving too much agitation in my mind. Our GAUDIYA MATHA people fought with one another after the demise of my Guru Maharaja, but my disciples have ALREADY begun fighting even in my presence. I am greatly concerned about it." (SPL October 18, 1973)

Note: Srila Prabhupada started making more clear the potential parallels between his own GBC's deviations, and the actual deviations of the infamous 1930s Gaudiya Matha "imitation of guru fiasco."  That is why the GBC borrowed their philosophy from the Gaudiya Matha to implement their imitation guru.

74.03 SRIDHARA, MADHAVA, TIRTHA MAHARAJA'S WARNING
Srila Prabhupada: "So SRIDHARA MAHARAJA and his associate gentlemen unauthorizedly selected one acharya and later it proved to be a failure. The result is that now EVERYONE is claiming to be acharya. In some camps the acharya is being CHANGED three times a year. Therefore amongst my God brothers NO ONE IS QUALIFIED to become acharya. So it is better NOT TO MIX with my God brothers very intimately, because instead of inspiring our students they may sometimes POLLUTE them.  This attempt was made by them previously, especially MADHAVA Maharaja and TIRTHA Maharaja and BON Maharaja, but somehow I saved the situation. This is going on. We shall be careful about them AND NOT MIX WITH THEM. This is my instruction to YOU ALL. They CANNOT HELP us in our movement, but they are very competent to HARM our natural progress. So we must be very careful about them."  (SPL April 28, 1974)

74.04 GBC TITLE INSIGNIFICANT
Srila Prabhupada: "Your conclusion is very good and I very much appreciate that GBC or XYZ you are always servant of Krishna." (SPL November 6,1974)

Note: A "GBC" title is not so significant.

74.05 ANOTHER GBC ACHARYA?
In 1974, Bali Mardan dasa (the GBC for New York) had run off with a Chinese woman. Some say she was a prostitute. Both of them began eating chickens and drinking beer in the New York temple. Srila Prabhupada chastised other leaders, such as Jayadvaita Swami, for not controlling this crisis.  "You should have done something," Srila Prabhupada chided. "I have not yet received the report form the inquiry commission, but there are four points to be inquired. The first is the meat eating and chicken eating in the temple and even in the deity kitchen where the prasadam for the deities is prepared. This is the most serious complaint. And in spite of the meat eating Taittiriya was allowed to worship the Deity ...So from your letter the first and second points are corroborated by the inquiry commission." (SPL November 8, 1974)

Simultaneously, this woman began to claim that Bali Mardan was "the reincarnation of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura," citing Srila Prabhupada himself as the alleged source of this pronouncement. In short, it was and still is widely known that some GBC manifested the propensity to artificially claim to be "acharyas in the parampara," authorized by Srila Prabhupada himself. (SPL 11/74)

RATIONALIZATION SEED
Exactly like this Chinese woman, the post-1977 GBC similarly allege that gurus can behave obnoxiously. Of course, some post-1977 GBC gurus have behaved far worse that Bali Mardan could have even dreamed of. The current (1994) GBCs now also state that the bona fide acharya may indeed fall down into eating chicken and steak, drinking beer, taking LSD and so forth. Was this chinese woman the GBC's new acharya authority?  At least this woman had much more sense than the current GBCs. She would never state that homosexual pedophilia may sometimes be performed by bona fide acharyas in the parampara.

74.06 GBC FLICKERING
Srila Prabhupada: "But the difficulty is that our GBC men are falling victim to MAYA. Today I trust this GBC [man] and tomorrow he will FALL DOWN. This is the difficulty. If the GBC men are so FLICKERING, then what to speak of others? Unless this problem is solved, whatever we may resolve, it will not be very useful..." (SPL December 4, 1974)

Note: Three years later they were "eternal gurus," the sum total of all demigods?

74.07 GBC WHIMSICAL?
Srila Prabhupada: "I made the GBC to give me relief, but if you do like this, then where is the relief? It is ANXIETY for me. This is the difficulty, that as soon as one gets POWER he becomes whimsical and SPOILS everything. What can I do?" ( SPL September 12, 1974)

74.08 GBC CONSPIRACY?
Srila Prabhupada: "Now, by the grace of Krishna we have got sufficient properties all over the world, so there cannot be any diplomacy or conspiracy by any sane man. All these properties and opulences, whatever we have got, this will not go with me when I go away from this world. It will remain here.  I am training some of my experienced disciples how to manage after my departure [the GBC]. So, if instead of taking the training, if in my lifetime you people say 'I AM THE LORD OF ALL I SURVEY' that is a dangerous CONSPIRACY."

MANAGE WITHOUT PERSONAL AMBITION
"I wanted you all my experienced disciples should manage the whole, institution very cleverly WITHOUT PERSONAL AMBITION like ordinary materialistic men. The Gaudiya Matha institution has become smashed,  at least stopped its program of preaching work on account of personal ambitions. So whatever is done is done. I shall REQUEST YOU ALL NOT TO BE PERSONALLY AMBITIOUS I shall do everything in my power to fulfill your personal ambitions." (SPL October 8, 1974)

74.09 GBC PUNISHED?
Srila Prabhupada: "There are twelve authorities mentioned in the sastras. One of them is Yamaraja [a demigod]. Balir vaiyasakir vayam. This is stated in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Yamaraja is one of the GBC of Krishna. Yes, as we have got twelve GBC's, similarly Krishna has got GBC's. ... So we have to follow. Mahajano yena gata sa pantha. Therefore, we have created these GBCs. So they should be very responsible men. Otherwise, they will be punished.  They will be punished to become a sudra [low born].  Although Yamaraja is a GBC, he made a little mistake. He was punished to become a sudra. So, those who are GBC's, they should be very, very careful to administer the business of ISKCON. Otherwise they will be punished. As the post is very great, similarly, the punishment is very great. That is the difficulty." (Srimad-Bhagavatam Lecture - 1.1.3.15- June 4, 1974)

75.01 TRINKET SALES HAVOC
Srila Prabhupada: "I have considered the matter of [trinkets such as] record distribution and have decided that it should be immediately stopped. It has simply caused havoc.  It should be stopped everywhere. The stress must be on books, nothing else needs to be sold." (SPL January 6, 1975)

Note: Immediately after Srila Prabhupada departed, his alleged "guru successors" began selling all manner of trinkets including: Pope buttons, football stickers, Snoopy buttons, Hong Kong oil paintings, rock and roll and lewd audio records, and so on. There were also reports of "guru encouraged" drug selling, and some devotee "sellers and smugglers" were later on arrested. Here, Srila Prabhupada gives clear notice that He did not want these "trinket sales" in His movement.

75.02 EARLY GURU ATTEMPT
In January of 1975, in Honolulu, Hawaii, during a meeting with several BBT trustees and many senior leaders, Srila Prabhupada chastised the then Germany GBC and the leader of the New Vrindavana community, Kirtanananda Swami, for placing their own pictures on temple altars. They were already creating the impression they were his successor gurus. Srila Prabhupada remarked, ironically, that at least in the Gaudiya Matha the "self-appointed guru" deviants waited for their bona fide guru to physically pass away before squabbling who would "succeed" him. But his disciples were already fighting to succeed him and take up the position of guru, while he was still physically present. Srila Prabhupada expressed his strong disapproval of such tendencies.

75.03 AMBITIOUS GBC?
Srila Prabhupada: "It is now evident that some of our top men are very much ambitious and there have been so many fall-downs..." (SPL January 27, 1975)

75.04 GBC GREATER THAN GURU?
Srila Prabhupada: "Now has the GBC become more than Guru Maharaja? As if the GBC is simply meant for looking after pounds, shillings and pence? The GBC does not look after spiritual life. That is the defect." (SPL November 10, 1975)

75.05 MACHIAVELLI?
Around this time, according to a reliable devotee, a leading GBC man was enthusiastically promoting and trying to distribute Machiavelli's book "The Prince" to other GBCs. According to the cover of this book, Machiavelli has been equated with Satan himself, hardly a suitable literature for an assembly of "pure devotees"?

75.06 FLAWS UNDETECTED
Srila Prabhupada: "Big GBC men, so many editors, and it is not detected? You are all mudhas [low-class fools], what can I do?..." (SPL Aug 21, 1975)

75.07 ACTUAL PLATFORM
Srila Prabhupada: "I am the initiating guru, and you are the instructor guru by teaching what I am teaching and doing what I am doing. This is not a title, but you must actually come to this platform. This I want." (SPL August 4, 1975)

76.01 EXPLOIT PROPERTY
Herein, Srila Prabhupada identifies one of his "guru" Godbrother as a "sarpa" or snake-like man: "That is my ["guru"] Godbrother's ignorance. And this is regrettable, because they are POSING as Vaishnava. Ordinary men can do that, but they are dressing as Vaishnava and they are so envious. That Tirtha Maharaja, unnecessarily he was envious, whole life fighting, fighting, fighting in the court and died. Simply planning. ...Yes. He has no spiritual idea. Simply he wanted to exploit the property, that's all." (Srila Prabhupada conversation January 8, 1976)

76.02 ENVY OF GURU?
Tamala Krishna Goswami, a big leader in the 1977 guru appointment concoction, approached a devotee in the Los Angeles temple and said, "I know you [PD], you're just waiting for Prabhupada to die so you can sit in his seat." At this time it was too painful for most devotees to even think of Srila Prabhupada's departure at all. Thus, it is telling that Tamala Krishna was actively contemplating "how soon would he depart?" and "who would be sitting in Srila Prabhupada's seat?" Worse, there is a growing body of evidence that Srila Prabhupada was in fact poisoned. And it is a fact that immediately after Srila Prabhupada departed, Tamal Krishna was one of the first people to sit in his seat.

In 1976 PD had been criticizing the then ever-expanding cheating (money shuffling) techniques encouraged by some GBC as "samkirtana."  Some GBCs, such as Tamala Krishna, did not like this criticism.  So he lied that PD was smoking pot, wearing a sari and leading a 'sahajiya' group in Los Angeles. Tamala Krishna even directly lied to Srila Prabhupada that PD was "working together with (the renegade) Nitai dasa and both of them had accepted a rascal sahajiya babaji guru from Vrindavana."

PD was very alarmed by these false GBC concoctions, and so he wrote a letter to Srila Prabhupada explaining his side of the story. Srila Prabhupada's secretary at the time (PKS) then asked PD, "how did you like your nice reply letter from Srila Prabhupada?" (SPL response to PD)

There was one major problem: PD had never received Srila Prabhupada's reply letter. Yet, both PD and Srila Prabhupada were in Los Angeles at that time. Obviously, some deviant GBCS had hid the reply letter. They were already "manipulating Srila Prabhupada's words" to suit their devious purposes. Not too surprisingly, a short while later, Srila Prabhupada again criticized these "cheating samkirtana" techniques.

76.03 CHEATING FORBIDDEN
Srila Prabhupada: "A film showing illegal techniques of distributing my books [money shuffle] was never authorized by me. If it is actually a fact what you say, then stop it immediately. In all our dealings we should be above suspicion.  They say first impressions are lasting. If someone feels cheated by our men, because they are using dubious methods of distributing and collecting money, our purity may be doubted and our reputation spoiled." (SPL October 15, 1976)

76.04 INTERNAL SPOILING?
Srila Prabhupada: "It [Krishna's movement] can't be slowed down unless we SPOIL it." (Srila Prabhupada conversation, June 4, 1976)

76.05 "KILLING ONE'S GURU" WARNING
Srila Prabhupada: "I am practically seeing that as soon as they [our students] begin to learn a little Sanskrit, they immediately feel they have become more than their guru. Then the policy is to kill their guru and be killed themselves." (SPL September 18, 1976)

76.06 GBCs MAY GO
Srila Prabhupada: "Krishna does not require any president or any GBC. He's giving a chance to everyone, that's all. Otherwise thousands of GBC may come and go, His work will go on...." (Srila Prabhupada conversation September 26, 1976)

76.07 "KILL GURU" WARNING
Srila Prabhupada: "He, [Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura, founder of the Gaudiya Matha] before passing away, He gave them all direction - and he NEVER said that this man should be the next [guru] acharya. But these people, just after he passed away, they began to fight, 'Who shall be the next acharya?...' That is the failure. They never thought, 'Guru Maharaja gave us instruction on so many things', why did he not say, 'This man should be the next acharya?' They wanted to create somebody ARTIFICIALLY as acharya and EVERYTHING FAILED.

"They did not even consider common sense that if guru maharaja had wanted to APPOINT somebody as acharya, why he did not say?  He said so many things and this point he missed? The main point?  And they insisted on it. They declared, 'Come on unfit persons to become acharya,' then another man comes, then another, then another. So better to remain a foolish person perpetually to be directed by Guru Maharaja. So that is perfection. And as soon as it was announced that, 'Guru maharaja is dead, now I am so advanced that I can KILL my guru and become [guru]'...then he is finished." (Srila Prabhupada conversation August 15 1976)

Note: The above is a perfect description of the post-1977 ISKCON GBC deviation. First of all, they artificially claimed that Srila Prabhupada had appointed them to be his "successor acharyas."  Doubters were excommunicated, some were even killed. And as the GBC's first wave of "rascals posing as guru" became exposed, they simply appointed "another man and then another man" to become guru, exactly as the Gaudiya Matha's deviants did.

The current status in ISKCON is so much degraded that persons who have been exposed as having illicit sex with men, women and children, are still considered as "persons who are components of the bona fide eternally pure guru parampara." Worse, the first wave of post-1977 deviants certified the next wave of gurus by their "rubber stamp." The GBC insists on it. Yet Srila Prabhupada called all of this "killing the guru."

77.01 WEAPONS AGAINST BROTHERS
Srila Prabhupada: "These [artificial claims to be a guru] are weapons. That was the only endeavor, how he [Tirtha Maharaja] could legally occupy the bricks and stones of the Gaudiya Matha. That's all. He has no other ambition. It was simply show. But real purpose was to occupy, how to take the whole property. BUSINESS." (Srila Prabhupada conversation January 13, 1977)

Note: In their March 1990 "ISKCON Journal," the GBC exalted Tirtha Maharaja to the same status as Srila Prabhupada. Meanwhile, some of the other very elderly and senior Gaudiya Matha members now agree that the current GBC has done what Tirtha Maharaja had done: the GBC gurus have made "a commercial business" of ISKCON or Srila Prabhupada's movement.

77.02 VERY DANGEROUS
Srila Prabhupada: "Our mission is to serve, bhakta vishesha, and live with devotees. NOT THAT YOU TAKE THE PLACE OF GURU. That is all nonsense. Very DANGEROUS, then everything will be SPOILED. As soon as you become ambitious to take the place of guru-gurusu narah matih. That is material disease." (SPL April,21   1977)

A FEW MORE GAUDIYA MATHA QUOTES AND WARNINGS
Srila Prabhupada also indirectly compares the  "guru" Tirtha Maharaja to the demon Ravana in his Srimad-Bhagavatam. (SB 5.18.22) "We have seen that one of the disciples of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura wanted to enjoy the property of his spiritual master, and the spiritual master being merciful toward him, gave him the temporary property, but not the power to preach the cult of Caitanya Mahaprabhu all over the world. That special mercy of the  power to preach is given to a devotee who does not want anything material from his spiritual master but wants only to serve him. The story of the demon Ravana illustrates this point."

The Gaudiya Matha "acharyas" generally are called "self-interested fools" in the Caitanya Caritamrita. (CC Adi-Lila 2.76) "Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami, at the time of his passing away, ordered all of his disciples to work conjointly to preach the mission of Caitanya Mahaprabhu all over the world. Later, however, some self-interested, foolish disciples disobeyed his orders. Each one of them wanted to become head of the mission and they fought in the courts, neglecting the order of the spiritual master, and the entire mission was defeated. We are not proud of this, but the truth must be explained. We believed in the words of our spiritual master and started in a humble way- in a helpless way- but due to the spiritual force of the order of the supreme authority, this movement has become successful" (Sri Caitanya-Caritamrta Adi-Lila 7.95-96)

Some Gaudiya Matha gurus are also indirectly described  as "disciples of Kali-yuga."    "Unfortunately in this age of Kali there are many mundane persons in the dress of Vaishnavas, and Srila Bhativinoda Thakura has described them as disciples of Kali. He says, kali-cela. He indicates that there is another Vaishnava, a pseudo-Vaishnava with tilaka on his nose and kunthi beads around his neck. Such a pseudo-Vaishnava associates with money and women and is jealous of successful Vaishnavas. Although passing for a Vaishnava, his only business is earning money in the dress of a Vaishnava. Bhaktivinoda Thakura, therefore says that such a pseudo Vaishnava is not a Vaishnava at all but a disciple of Kali-Yuga. A disciple of kali cannot become an acarya by the decision of some high court. Mundane votes have no jurisdiction to elect a Vaishnava acarya. A Vaishnava acarya is self-effulgent and there is no need for any high court judgement. A false acarya may try to override a Vaisnava by a high court decision, but Bhaktivinoda Thakura says that he is nothing but a disciple of Kali-Yuga." Sri Caitanya-Caritamrta Madhya-Lila 1.220

This is merely a sampling, there are hundreds of similar quotes. Many important points are made. Here are a few: The GBC had a tendency to replace spontaneous Krishna Consciousness with "legal" formulas, as the Gaudiya Matha did. The GBC had a tendency not to openly discuss their insidious plans with the general devotees, which fully ripened with their concocted guru appointment.

The GBC had a tendency to enact legislation and money manipulations without following established guidelines or obtaining Srila Prabhupada's approval. Srila Prabhupada directly doubts whether the management, as he expected it, will carry on after His departure. This doubt was openly expressed as a warning of the GBCs potential deviations. Indeed, the whole movement may be victimized and "spoiled by the GBC". This is what has actually happened.

The numerous warning/comparisons regarding the Gaudiya Matha indicated that Srila Prabhupada was warning that his whole movement would be completely spoiled, immediately especially if the GBCS would artificially pose themselves as gurus. Thus the GBC hid as many of the warnings as they could, and went ahead with their "we are now gurus" plan.

...being continued....
